Target Audience

Safety assessors who need to conduct checks on the confined space to make sure that it is safe for workers to enter and perform assigned work.
Course Overview
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that Confined Space Safety Assessor Course fee will be revised to $599 (wkday) / $625 (wkend) with effect from 1 Feb 2010 onwards.
At the end of the course, participants should:
- Understand the legal requirements on manhole work
- Acquire knowledge on manholes, their hazards and consequences, control and mitigation measures
- Understand the need of having an effective manhole entry permit system
- Acquire the ability to plan and conduct gas testing on various types of confined spaces using a systematic approach:
- Identify the atmospheric hazards existing in the manhole
- Select the type of gas monitoring instruments to quantify the identified air contaminants
- Conduct the gas testing to evaluate conditions of the manhole
- Record and interpret the gas measurements obtained

39 hours, include 3 hours of assessment

- Risk Assessment
- Prevention and Control of Confined Space Hazards
- Type of Gas Monitoring Instruments, their Applications and Limitations
- Gas Testing Procedures Procedures
- Accident Case Studies of Accidents in Confined Spaces
- Selection, Use, Fit, and Maintenance of PPE used for work in Confined Spaces
- Communication and Emergency Response Plan
Pre-requisites
Applicants must have at least 3 GCE 'O' Level passes or equivalent, with at least one credit in a Science subject (Physics / Chemistry) OR NTC 2 in Chemical Process OR Bridging course for CSSA
OR
(i) ESS WPLN 5 OR 'N’ Level English and Maths Grade 5
AND
(ii) WSH Skills & Knowledge equivalent to Certificate in WSH OR
3 years of relevant working experience in operations and co-ordination of safety work.
