Mid-Career Switcher: Mr Chew Wan Boon

Been in the same organisation for the past 8 years, Mr Chew Wan Boon has never thought of leaving or upgrading his skills. “I was a System Engineer at that time, dealing with storage, hard disk partitioning and installing of operating system in the servers. Upgrading never came to my mind as I was used to my daily routine,” shared Wan Boon.

Mr Soh Thien Thu, one of his trainers, recalled: ‘Wan Boon is a very enthusiastic learner. He puts in extra effort to understand what was taught in class. He managed to score well in the assessments through his hard work eventually.” Wan Boon was inspired to learn more and took up the NICF – Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and NICF – Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) subsequently.

“I enjoyed learning and NTUC LearningHub (LHUB) provides a very conducive environment for learning. The trainers were also very experienced and patient, and helped us greatly in our learning journey,” shared Wan Boon. After completing his courses, he found a job as a Network Engineer in his current organisation. Currently two months into his job, he was happy that he could move on in his career and doing something that he enjoys.

Wan Boon added: “It was never easy to start learning, but I knew that I had to start somewhere. I’m glad that I took the first step to learn and move on. I hope that more individuals will come forward to learn and stay abreast at all times. Learning has given me a new perspective and opened up my career options. I look forward to work these days and I hope to take up more IT courses such as Cybersecurity in the near future.”
