Course Objectives

This module provides trainee with the knowledge and skills in supervising and managing junior security officers. Upon completion of this module, the participant will be equipped with the necessary and relevant supervisory and managerial skills required as a Security Supervisor to induct security personnel and be able to apply them at the workplace.

Pre-requisites

  • Basic knowledge of Ms PowerPoint Presentation

  • At least a lower secondary educational qualification

OR

  • with the following competency ratings from the Employability Skills are eligible:
    • Listening/Speaking Min. Level 5
    • Reading/Writing Min. Level 5
    • Numeracy Min. Level 5

Course Outline

Prepare to induct security officer

  • Use job aids (which may include OJT guide, Instructor guide) to conduct induction on site
  • Develop job aids
  • Obtain clearance for induction to be carried out without causing disruption or inconvenience to other users & inform appropriate person
  • Communicate roles & responsibilities of new security officers according to organisational procedures
  • Introduce new security officers to appropriate person in charge of security, fire & safety functions

Conduct induction on access control

  • Orientate on layout of premises in relation to access control points & show exact location
  • Explain control & issuance of keys
  • Explain control of vehicles at entrance & restricted areas
  • Explain control of movement of goods
  • Explain on use of access control equipment & systems

Conduct induction on patrolling

  • Orientate security officers on patrolling premises according to organisational procedures
  • Show security officers on use of patrolling equipment
  • Bring security officers on patrol routes & critical points
  • Explain reporting of risks, hazards & defects according to organisational procedures

Conduct induction on security and alarm systems

  • Orientate security officers on use of equipment & control panel
  • Explain Command Centre operations according to organisational procedures
  • Explain operational status & readiness of system to security officers
  • Show security officers a list of contact persons should emergencies arise
  • Show security officers the steps to make telephone calls to appropriate authorities when emergencies occur
  • Direct security officers on steps to take during an evacuation
  • Show & familiarise security officers on making announcement during emergencies
  • Show & familiarise security officers on documentation of records

Conduct induction on reception duties

  • Orientate security officers on reception duties
  • Orientate security officers on handling of walk-in visitors
  • Orientate security officers on handling of telephone calls according to organisational procedures
  • Orientate security officers on handling emergency & threatening calls
  • Orientate security officers on providing information to building users
  • Orientate security officers on handling lost-&-found property

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued for each module graded competent. SOA reflected as SEC-PDV-3001-1.1 Capability Development.

  • Feedback and Work observation presentation, role play, report writing (85%) carried out individually throughout the entire training duration and on the Final Assessment day.

Funding Eligibility Criteria:

Individual Sponsored Trainee

Company Sponsored Trainee

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses

  • Trainee must achieve at least 75% attendance
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP: 

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.
