Course Overview

The course is to enable the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Coordinator or Supervisor to acquire the knowledge and be equipped with the application skills to supervise WSH in tunnelling construction.

Course Objectives

At the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • Explain and interpret WSH legislations and other requirements relevant to deep excavation and tunnelling works
  • Identify WSH hazards including unsafe work conditions and practices in deep excavation and tunnelling worksite
  • Evaluate and control risks in accordance with the organisational Risk Management Plan
  • Identify gaps in the existing control measures and report to management on appropriate corrective actions and preventive actions
  • Monitor and review the health condition of workers in a compressed air environment
  • Assist in the evacuation of workers in an emergency situation

Pre-requisites

You must have completed the Building Construction Supervisor Safety Course (BCSS) or the module on Supervise WSH in Construction Industry from WSQ Advanced Certificate in WSH.

  • Hazards associated with deep excavation and tunnelling works
  • Unsafe work conditions and practices in a deep excavation and tunnelling worksite
  • Safety planning and organization for deep excavation and tunnelling works
  • Implement WSH control measures in accordance with organizational Risk Management Plan
  • Gaps in the existing control measures
  • Appropriate corrective actions and preventive actions to address the root causes of the incident
  • Health considerations in tunnelling and deep excavation works
  • Types and characteristics of Decompression Illnesses (DCI)
  • Monitor the health condition of workers in compressed air (CA) environment
  • Evacuation and rescue procedures
  • Communication system in excavation and tunnelling works

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Upon completion of the course and passing the examination, a Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and a Safety Pass from NTUC LearningHub will be awarded to you.

Funding Eligibility Criteria:

Company Sponsored Trainee

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses

  • Trainee must achieve at least 75% attendance
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP: 

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.
