Course Objectives

This module is mandatory for all security officers/ supervisors who are involved in conducting security screening of person and bags in premises and special events. This course prepares the participant into understanding the proper methods of screening and conducting the proper methods of searching on a person and a bag. It teaches the essential knowledge and skills on using both the walk-through and hand-held metal detectors.

  • The admission requirements are:
  • Listening / speaking: Min. Level 4
  • Reading / Writing: Min. Level 4
  • Numeracy: Min. Level 4

Course Outline

Prepare Security Screening Duty

  • Clarify duty assignment details with appropriate authority in doubt
  • Check security screening equipment for operational status

Prepare Person for Security Screening

  • Greet person entering checkpoint courteously in accordance with organisational greetings standard
  • Inform person entering checkpoint to courteously comply with walk-through metal detector security screening in accordance with organisational procedures
  • Guide person to walk through walk-through metal detector

Prepare Security Screening with Walk-through metal and Hand-held Metal Detector

  • Observe person walking through walk-through metal detector
  • Identify activation signal in accordance with established organisational procedures
  • Conduct verbal check followed by hand-held metal detector screening when activation signal is identified according to organisational procedures
  • Prohibit entry/exit and inform appropriate authority where person refused to be screened in accordance with organisational procedures and client requirements
  • Handle prohibited items in accordance with organisational procedures and premise requirements
  • Thank person for his/her co-operation and patience according to organisational greetings standard

Conduct Manual Screening (pat-down) of Person

  • Identify the need to conduct search of person
  • Inform appropriate authority when person refused to comply with instructions of Screening Officer
  • Conduct screening of person in accordance with limits of authority of Screening Officer and established organisational procedures and with presence of authorised personnel
  • Conduct pat-down search according to areas of checks
  • Report to appropriate authority when suspicious item is found

Conduct Manual Bag Search

  • Identify the need to undertake bag search and inform person courteously whose items are to be manually searched to comply with instructions from screening
  • Perform manual bag search
  • Conduct manual bag search arising from suspicious item found
  • Seek permission from appropriate authority when there is a special request to search in privacy
  • Handle suspicious item in accordance with organisational procedures

Conclude Security Screen Activities

  • Log out and switch off security equipment in accordance with organisational procedures
  • Check work area for cleanliness and tidiness
  • Return all equipment to appropriate authority
  • Record all incidents in activity report and submit to appropriate authority in accordance with organisational procedures

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

  • Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued for each module graded competent. SOA reflected as SEC-SOP-1012-1.1 Security Screening Management.
  • Certificate of completion from NTUC LearningHub

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses

  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP: 

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.
