Cynthia Lim – A Passionate Lifelong Learner From The NTUC Family

31 Dec 2018 Posted in ⟨Stories⟩

Cynthia is a passionate lifelong learner who has been with NTUC LearningHub (NTUC LHUB) since its corporatisation in 2004.

Serving NTUC through the years

Prior to joining LHUB, Cynthia was with the NTUC Membership Department and Skills Development Department. She fondly recalled how she started the early years of her career learning the ropes from her direct superiors through meetings and projects. Through these experiences, she began to better understand the role of the Labour Movement and why her work is important for workers in Singapore.

Subsequently, she joined NTUC LHUB managing a team of programme executives.

Upholding Quality Standards In NTUC LHUB

During NTUC LHUB’s early years, Cynthia led NTUC LHUB to acquire the ISO 9001 certification, an internationally recognised standard of quality assurance. Having garnered success in this field and with her prior experience, she decided to specialise her trade and lead the Operations and Quality Services Team.

Cynthia and her team regularly conduct audits to uphold quality standards in NTUC LHUB. Through her team’s hard work, LHUB recently clinched the Singapore Quality Class STAR with Innovation and Service Niches Award. This recognition is awarded to companies with excellent business practices. Additionally, Cynthia plays a key role in helping NTUC LHUB to clear audits from various regulatory and international standards bodies like SSG, OHSAS 18001, ISO29990 and CPE. Cynthia’s personal zest for learning also saw her take on additional responsibilities and challenges like PDPA and ERM over the years.

Staying adaptable

Sounds like an ambitious amount of growth and changes over the years? That’s because it is. But while others may shy away from such changes and challenges, Cynthia believes that such changes should be embraced.

“People tend to feel that there’s nothing to gain from the additional stress and challenges from changes, but there is always a key takeaway,” she says, an earnest smile on her face. As someone who lives and breathes NTUC LHUB, it’s no surprise that she cited aspects of Worker 4.0 to her success.

Although her achievements are admirable, her humble demeanour would suggest otherwise. Through her years of long service, she has held one thing in mind.

“In my area of work, it is important to continuously learn and relearn, and think critically. I always welcome the chance to learn and grow” she shared, addressing how she stays relevant and up to date in the evolving workplace.

And while her drive for excellence in NTUC LHUB may seem all head and no heart, that couldn’t be more wrong.

Passion for lifelong learning

“Helping people acquire new skills and knowledge is my passion and that is the reason why I joined NTUC LHUB, one of the largest training providers in Singapore.” Cynthia takes a great deal of pride in what she does, knowing that these quality checks uphold the standard of education the workforce is getting. That’s what keeps her motivated and driven in her daily endeavours.

However, Cynthia also credits her motivation to stay on.

“It’s the culture,” she smiles. “People are more willing to listen and share.”

Her passion for learning extends well beyond the professional realm, and Cynthia is always looking out for opportunities to discover and expand her knowledge. Having studied the Japanese language for 7 to 8 years, it must be said that her commitment to stay a lifelong learner is what she upholds consistently throughout her life.

This year, NTUC LearningHub celebrates 15 years of transforming people through accessible education. Since 2004, we have fulfilled over 2.3 million training places and transformed over 16,700 organisations.
