Featured Trainer – Mr George Krishnan

This month, we will be sharing the story of Mr George Krishnan, who has been with NTUC LearningHub (LHUB) for 11 years. He is currently our trainer for the Security courses.

A PASSION RATHER THAN A JOB

George has vast experiences in security training. Retired from the Police Force in the early 1990s, he went into training and was an instructor in military intelligence. He decided to join LHUB thereafter and became a full-time trainer to help those who wish to join the security industry.

As a trainer, George met with different kinds of learners every day. “To me, I enjoy training and imparting knowledge to my learners. Seeing them learning a new skill getting a job really makes my day and I feel that I should keep this going. It’s not just me imparting knowledge to them. What makes this job really different is sometimes I learned from my learners too. This is a very different experience from my previous jobs,” shared George.

UNIQUE TEACHING STYLES

Besides interacting and learning from his learners, George also provides real-life examples during the course of learning. One of his learners, Mr Theeban shared: “Mr Krishnan related the concepts to real-life examples which we can understand. It is not just scenarios from our course materials, but examples which are related to our area of work, and this eased our learning process.”

TRENDS IN LEARNING

Being a trainer for so many years, George noticed that there is an increase in the number of younger learners who came for security training. “It’s heartening to see this, and the industry definitely needs the younger generation to move on. It’s not just about standing guard all the time; but performing different functions such as handling firearms and counter-terrorism, and also a career progression from there. I hope to see more people joining the industry, and I will definitely instill learning in them when they are here for training,” said George.
