Featured Trainer – Mr John Lai

This month, we will be sharing the story of Mr John Lai, who has been with NTUC LearningHub (LHUB) for 10 years. He is currently our trainer for the Service Excellence courses.

LOVES KNOWLEDGE AND ENGAGES WITH LEARNERS

John loves knowledge and likes to engage with the learners. During his lessons, he will go through the curriculum using different ways such as role playing, activities and sharing of knowledge. He encourages his learners to share and present ideas, so that everyone benefit from the sharing. “Learning is a two-way approach. We learn from each other through our experiences and I’m here to facilitate the learning process. I believed that learners will remember the concepts better through the different approaches used,” shared John.

ADDING VALUE TO SOMEONE’S LIFE

Being a trainer for so many years, John led a fruitful and fulfilling life. To him, it is not a job; but rather it is a passion which he wants to keep it going. “There are so many learners whom we trained every day. I don’t recall each and every learner; but it’s very heartening to see my learners learning new skills and remembering my efforts as well as my teachings. Some of them will just say a simple ‘Hi’ to me when we meet on the streets, and telling me how they are doing. All these were small gestures, but I’m glad to see them remembering me and improving their lives thereafter,” said John.

One of his learners, Ms Wilron Loh, shared, “I have attended so many courses and Mr John Lai is the only trainer who has impressed me. He is very organised and patient, and showed extra care to those who needed additional help during the class. Learning is a breeze and I could remember and apply what I learned into use after the course. I really enjoyed my lessons with him.”

MORE ON MR JOHN LAI

Started off in Customer Service and Sales, John had vast experiences handling different types of customers. He also conducted training to his staff and these increased his interest to pass on knowledge to people. He set up his own company conducting training subsequently, and joined LHUB as a trainer to impart knowledge to those in the workforce. “I’m happy to see my learners being influenced positively, and this keeps me going,” said John with a broad smile on his face.
