Operating vehicles requiring Class 4 & 5 driving licence and above, e.g. lorries, trailer trucks, and buses, and other specialised driver roles like chauffeurs

Course Objectives

This course is designed to teach participants how to identify and avoid potential hazards when driving a heavy vehicle. It will also cover the safe driving skills and techniques necessary to operate a heavy vehicle, as well as the importance of defensive driving and the responsibilities of heavy vehicle drivers towards other road users. Finally, the course will teach participants how to implement preventive measures to reduce or prevent accidents in the workplace.

Pre-requisites

To be eligible for this course, applicants must meet the following requirement:

  • Class 4 & 5 Driving License

Course Outline

The course is divided into 5 learning units:

  • LU1: Introduction to control measures for various heavy vehicle.
  • This unit will introduce participants to the different types of control measures that can be used to reduce the risk of accidents involving heavy vehicles. These measures include speed limits, braking distances, and lane discipline.
  • LU2: Traffic Hazards and Risks for heavy vehicle.
  • This unit will discuss the different types of traffic hazards that heavy vehicle drivers face, such as roadwork, construction zones, and other vehicles. Participants will also learn how to identify and avoid these hazards.
  • LU3: Defensive Driving Skills and Techniques.
  • This unit will teach participants the different defensive driving skills and techniques that they can use to avoid accidents. These techniques include scanning the road ahead, leaving a safe following distance, and using turn signals.
  • LU4: Documentation and Reporting.
  • This unit will discuss the importance of documentation and reporting when it comes to heavy vehicle accidents. Participants will learn how to document accidents and how to report them to the appropriate authorities.
  • LU5. Continual Improvement.
  • This unit will discuss the importance of continual improvement when it comes to heavy vehicle safety. Participants will learn how to identify and implement improvements to their driving habits and to the safety procedures in their workplace.
  • Case Studies

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Statement of Attainment (SOA) from Skills Future Singapore (SSG) will be issued for each module graded competent. SOA reflected as "PTP-WSH-2050-1.1"

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses

  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

UTAP: 

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.
