This learner’s Guide aimed to present the content and activities aligned to the Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) Respiratory Care in Nursing module (L2).

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify basic structure and functions of the respiratory system needed to record respiration and oxygen saturation rates
  • Adhere to infection control polices and practices before handling patients to record their respiration and oxygen saturation rates
  • Evaluate respiration rate accurately on patient using necessary knowledge on the acceptable respiration range and saturation and understand factors that influence the respiration rate
  • Perform administration of oxygen on patient using the appropriate type of devices/equipment after taking in to consideration on the indications and contraindication of oxygen therapy
  • Conduct documentation on care rendered and escalate accordingly based on organisational policies and procedures when needed

Pre-requisites

The admission requirements are: 

  1. A basic knowledge of the organisation’s standard operating procedures and guidelines on healthcare service.
  2. A basic understanding of the organisation’s products and services offering.
  3. Understanding of the basics of personal grooming and hygiene.
  4. Experience in interacting with patients.

Module 1: INTRODUCTION TO BASIC STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Module 2: INFECTION CONTROL POLICIES AND PRACTICE IN HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION

Module 3: RESPIRATORY RATE ASSESSMENT ON PATIENT           

Module 4: ADMINISATION OF OXYGEN AND MONITORING PULSE OXIMETRY ON PATIENT

Module 5: DOCUMENTATION AND OBSERVATION PROCEDURE

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Statement of Attainment (SOA), accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore.

  • Certificate of completion from NTUC LearningHub

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

Funding Eligibility Criteria

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses.
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments and attain 100% competency.
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

SkillsFuture Credit: 

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP: 

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.

Absentee Payroll (AP) Funding: 

  • $4.50 per hour, capped at $100,000 per enterprise per calendar year.
  • AP funding will be computed based on the actual number of training hours attended by the trainee.
  • Note: Courses / Modules under Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) will not be eligible for AP funding claim.
