This course is mandatory for individuals who are assigned to supervise lifting operation involving a mobile crane or tower crane or any other crane in the workplace.

Pre-requisites

These are the admission requirements:

  • Have completed WSQ/ MOM ATP Rigging and Signalman course
  • Have a basic knowledge of the relevant sector of work
  • Be able to listen and speak, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the (ES) level 4
  • Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES level 4
  • and Be medically fit

Course Outline

CE: 1 Prepare to supervise safe lifting operations

  • Comply with Risk Assessment
  • Check to ensure adherence to legislation and organisational safe work procedures
  • Participate in lifting plan, risk assessment and safe work procedure (SWP) briefing  for lifting operations as a supervisor
  • Check to ensure proper use of appropriate PPE and tag line for personnel in lifting operations
  • Interpret load charts to verify the intended lift is within the Safe Working Load (SWL) of the crane
  • Verify pre-lift inspection of a crane, lifting gear and accessories
  • Check to ensure proper selection of rigging equipment, lifting gears and accessories for lifting a load
  • Check to ensure proper rigging of the load
  • Check to ensure proper set up of communication equipment serviceability of communications equipment and functionality of radio channels for safe lifting operations
  • Supervise cordoning off of lifting and lowering area using effective barricades with prominent warning signages
  • Report and rectify any abnormalities/defects in the crane, lifting gear accessories and communications equipment according to organizational procedures
  • Apply preventive measures and hazard control of lifting accidents according to organisational procedures

CE 2: Carry out supervision of safe lifting operations

  • Implement safety practices and hazard control measures in the workplace when carrying out Lifting Supervisor tasks
  • Identify hazards during lifting operations
  • Coordinate and supervise safe lifting operations involving cranes in a safe and proper manner
  • Coordinate and supervise lifting according to lifting plan
  • Respond to lifting accident and emergencies according to organizational Emergency Response Procedures (ERP)

CE 3: Supervise reinstatement of safe lifting operations

  • Supervise the dismantling and restoring of rigging equipment, lifting gears and accessories
  • Supervise good housekeeping of equipment and work area
  • Supervise post-operational checks on communication equipment crane, lifting gear and accessories
  • Check to ensure reporting of any damage and defects on communication equipment, crane, lifting gear and accessories
  • Conduct accident investigation and analysis process of lifting accidents (where necessary)

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

  • A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be issued by SSG for those who have been assessed as Competent
  • Safety Pass will also be issued
  • Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.
