Students will be required to complete a paper-based SF assessment during class.

After completing the course, students can proceed to undertake the SAFe Agilist Certification Exam from Scaled Agile which is optional. For students who decided to sit for the SAFe exam, they need to take the exam within 30 days from the start date of their class.

Course Overview


This two-day course is designed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and how to apply it to lead large, complex projects and programs. The course covers the key principles and practices of SAFe, including establishing team and technical agility, coordinating large multi-site and multi-team programs, and implementing SAFe in an enterprise. Throughout the course, participants will gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of SAFe leaders, including Program Manager, Product Manager, and Scrum Master. They will learn how to manage and execute program increments, plan, and execute program backlogs, and implement and measure value streams. The course will also cover how to apply Lean-Agile principles to the program level and understand the cultural change required to implement SAFe. Participants will gain hands-on experience through interactive exercises and case studies and will have the opportunity to practice applying SAFe in a simulated program increment planning event. They will also have access to the SAFe community and resources for continuous improvement and support for their SAFe journey. Upon completion of the course, participants will be prepared to take the Certified SAFe Agilist certification exam.

Pre-requisites

There are no specific prerequisites for this Leading SAFe course, but it is recommended that participants have some knowledge or experience in agile methodologies and principles. Familiarity with Scrum and Kanban is also beneficial, but not strictly required.

It would be helpful for the attendees if they have some prior experience in leading or participating in large projects or programs as the course focus on leading large projects/programs using SAFe.

This course is also beneficial for professionals who are responsible for leading organizational change and implementing SAFe in their organizations, as well as those who are preparing for the Certified SAFe Agilist certification exam.

Day 1:

  • Introduction to SAFe and its principles and practices
  • Establishing team and technical agility
  • Coordinating large, multi-site and multi-team programs
  • Breakdown of SAFe roles and responsibilities
  • SAFe governance and program execution
  • Lean-Agile principles and practices at the program level
  • Managing and executing program increments and program backlogs
  • Hands-on exercise: Program Increment Planning event simulation

Day 2:

  • Implementing and measuring value streams
  • Understanding the cultural change required to implement SAFe
  • Best practices for leading SAFe implementations
  • Access to the SAFe community and resources for continuous improvement and support
  • Review and Q&A session

Each day would consist of lectures, interactive exercises, and case studies to provide participants with a hands-on learning experience. The course would be taught by an experienced SAFe trainer, and participants would receive a course manual and other materials to support their learning.
