Course Overview

This course provides learners with the necessary abilities and knowledge to meet the Technical, Skills, and Competency Standards of Guard and Patrol at Level 1 proficiency and Access Control Management at Level 2 proficiency. By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Prepare for duty, complying with legal requirements and operating appropriate equipment.
  • Perform static guarding duties, including identifying and reporting various situations.
  • Identify and manage prohibited and hazardous items effectively.
  • Handle inquiries, requests, and offenses according to organizational procedures.
  • Conduct patrol duties using mobile reporting devices, addressing incidents of theft.
  • Operate a card access system, including identifying, responding to, and reporting unauthorized entries.
  • Issue access cards in accordance with organizational procedures.
  • Utilize Automatic Visitor Management and Access Control Systems to identify unauthorized entries and explain reporting procedures.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting for the card access reader.
  • Understand the role, responsibilities, and operation of the alarm monitoring system.
  • Understand the role, responsibilities, and operation of the CCTV system, including knowledge of biometrics and automatic number plate recognition.

Upon completion of the course, learners will have the necessary skills and knowledge to fulfill their responsibilities effectively in guard and patrol services and access control management.

Course Objectives

The WSQ Guard and Patrol, Access Control Management course equips learners with essential skills and knowledge in providing guard and patrol services and operating security equipment. By the end of the course, participants will be able to apply appropriate procedures for guard and patrol activities and effectively operate access control equipment. This training prepares individuals for their roles in guard and patrol services and access control management.

Pre-requisites

To be eligible for this course, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Minimum secondary 2 education
  • Attain the following competency ratings from the Employability Skills:
    • Listening / Speaking: Minimum Level 4
    • Reading / Writing: Minimum Level 4
    • Numeracy: Minimum Level 4

Course Outline

Learning Unit 1: Prepare for Duty and Off Duty

  • Prepare for duties and operate appropriate equipment according to organizational procedures.
  • Understand the legal framework and clarify duties with appropriate authorities.
  • Return equipment to the appropriate authorities.

Learning Unit 2: Conduct Guard and Patrol Duties

  • Follow guarding procedures and identify stakeholders.
  • Identify different situations during guard and patrol activities.
  • Adhere to reporting procedures for incidents during guard and patrol activities.

Learning Unit 3: Operate Access Control Equipment

  • Operate access control equipment and handle unauthorized entries.
  • Follow access card issuance procedures and operate visitor management systems.
  • Troubleshoot access card reader issues and report faults to supervisors.

Learning Unit 4: Operate Intruder Alarm Monitoring System

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of operating the alarm monitoring equipment.
  • Operate the alarm monitoring equipment according to organizational procedures.

Learning Unit 5: Operate CCTV Monitoring System

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of operating the CCTV equipment.
  • Operate the CCTV systems according to organizational procedures, including knowledge of biometrics and automatic number plate recognition.

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

  • Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued for each module graded competent. SOA reflected as SEC-SOP-1007-1.1 & SEC-TEM-2001-1.1
  • Certificate of completion from NTUC LearningHub

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.
