Course Overview

Falling is one of the most common causes of patient injury in healthcare facilities. For older adults, including seniors living in the community, falls could adversely impact an individual’s health such as functional decline, loss of independence, and social isolation. Falls occur for a variety of reasons ranging from dizziness, sudden pain, or poor transferring technics by care workers. It is important to understand the causes of fall in order to prevent it from happening.

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how to prevent accidental falls when lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients.
  • Describe body mechanics and health procedures in relation to safe lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients.
  • Perform risk and mobility assessment prior to lifting, transferring and positioning of patients
  • Demonstrate safe lifting, transferring and positioning of stable patients.

The admission requirements are: 

Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualifications (ES WSQ) Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5

Course Outline

  • LEARNING UNIT 1:  FALL RISK FACTORS AND ITS PREVENTION

  • LEARNING UNIT 2:  SAFETY PRECAUTIONS IN MOBILITY AND AMBULATION ASSISTANCE

  • LEARNING UNIT 3:  PREPARE PATIENTS AND YOURSELF FOR SAFE MOBILISATION AND AMBULATION

  • LEARNING UNIT 4: ASSIST STABLE PATIENTS IN MOBILISATION AND AMBULATION

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

  • Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Statement of Attainment (SOA), accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore.

  • Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.
  • Certificate of completion from NTUC LearningHub

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

Funding Eligibility Criteria

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses

  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
