Course Overview

This course is a continuation of Java SE: Programming I. It provides the additional key skills needed by Java programmers.

This course (NICF Java SE: Programming II), together with Java SE: Programming I will help you prepare for Oracle Certified Professional: Java SE Developer certification.

Course Objectives

This course will enable participants to:

  • Create Java applications that leverage the object-oriented features of the Java language, such as encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism
  • Execute a Java application from the command line
  • Create applications that use the Java Collections framework
  • Search and filter collections using Lambda Expressions
  • Implement error-handling techniques using exception handling
  • Implement input/output (I/O) functionality to read from and write to data and text files
  • Manipulate files, directories and file systems using the JDK NIO.2 specification
  • Perform multiple operations on database tables, including creating, reading, updating and deleting using both JDBC and JPA technology
  • Use Lambda Expression concurrency features
  • Apply modular programming practices and services to applications
  • Create high-performing multi-threaded applications

Pre-requisites

Before taking this course, participants must attend Java SE: Programming I

  • Hardware & Software

This course will be conducted as a Virtual Live Class (VLC) via Zoom platform. Participants must own a zoom account and have a laptop or a desktop with “Zoom Client for Meetings” installed. This can be downloaded from https://zoom.us/download

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

1.  Certificate of Completion from Oracle

Certificate of Completion from Oracle University will be issued to participants who have met at least 75% attendance and passed the prescribed assessment(s).

2.  Statement of Attainment from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG)

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), Statement of Attainment (SOAs) will be issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) to certify that the participant has achieved the following Competency Standard(s):

  • Applications Development (ICT-DIT-3002-1.1)

3.  External Certification Exam

This course will prepare participants to sit for:

Certification: Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 8/11/17 Programmer

Exam: Java SE Programmer II exam

Mode of Delivery: Virtual Live Class (VLC) via Zoom

As this is a government subsidised programme, the entire training programme will be video recorded for audit purposes by the relevant funding agency. To ascertain their presence, Trainees / Participants are required to

  • Turn on web camera to show real-time video, as opposed to using a profile picture / video (jpg/jpeg, gif or png image file) for the entirety of the training and assessment session.
  • Ensure that their faces are fully visible (not just the forehead / eyebrows)
  • Use their full name as per NRIC / Passport as their Screen Name on Zoom

Labs : Oracle University Event Learning Subscriptions

  • Courseware: Participants will receive an email to activate their e-course material (titled Oracle Event Learning Subscription). Once the e-course material is activated, it can be accessed for 90 days from the date of activation. Participants are strongly advised to only activate on the first day of class, under the strict guidance from the trainer.
  • Labs: Participants will be able to access Oracle’s online lab for 5 days.
  • Kindly note that participants will not be allowed to cancel or withdraw from the course  8 working  days before the class starts date.

Funding Eligibility Criteria

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses

  • Trainee must achieve at least 75% attendance
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

SkillsFuture Credit:

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP:
