Course Overview

Workplace safety and health (WSH) is a crucial aspect of the food and beverage (F&B) industry in Singapore. According to the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) annual WSH statistics report, from 2018-2020, the F&B industry had a total of approximately 932 workplace injuries, with a incidence rate ranging between 2.3 - 2.8 per 1000 employees.

This course is designed to help organisations implement Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) practices in accordance with legislative requirements and to support the implementation of safe work practices and maintain workplace risk control measures at workplaces.

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Intervene in the presence of unsafe behaviour and work practices
  • Assess the effectiveness in existing risk control measures and adequacy of resource allocation for implementation of risk control measures according to the hierarchy of control
  • Carry out WSH inspections
  • Implement WSH training and promotional programmes
  • Conduct incident investigation and prepare reports
  • Contribute ideas to improve desired outcomes of process, human and cultural factors and workplace or work-related factors
  • Identify gaps in the existing control measures and report to management for appropriate corrective actions and preventive actions

Pre-requisites

The admission requirements are: 

  • Read, write, and speak English at WPL Level 3
  • Manipulate numbers at WPN Level 3

Course Outline

LU1: Risk Assessment

  • Appraise workplace risk management plan and propose ways to improve in accordance with the requirements of the WSH Act

LU2: WSH Compliance Inspection

  • Inspect WSH processes and intervene for non-compliance

LU3: WSH Incident Investigation

  • Investigate and report incident with recommended solutions in accordance with organisational procedures

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

  • Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Statement of Attainment (SOA), accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore. SOA will be reflected as [code name i.e., FSS-WSH-3091-1.1 Workplace Safety and Health for Food and Beverage Operations].
  • Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

Funding Eligibility Criteria

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses

  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP: 

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.
