Course Overview
The WSQ Cultivating a Food Forest in Community Farms (From Seed to Plate) is a 24-hour course tailored to individuals interested in designed to mimic the structure and function of natural forests that provide a wide range of edible and useful plant species, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem. This course will equip learners with theoretical knowledge on planting layout guideline, planting and post-planting procedures, irrigation requirements, WSH guidelines, managing fertilizer and chemicals.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course, leaners will be able to:
- Plan for the planting activities includes determining tools and equipment in accordance with planting requirements and procedures, layouts with spatial considerations
- Oversee the planting activities in accordance with established procedures
- Develop irrigation and maintenance schedules for different plants and commonly planted species
- Apply chemicals and fertilisers to the plants in accordance with the relevant standards and WSH guidelines
- Maintain the post-planting aftercare activities includes adding mulches and other organic materials to the planted areas to promote plant health and growth in accordance with the individual plant requirements.
Pre-requisites
The admission requirements are:
- Read, write, and speak English at WPL Level 4
- Manipulate numbers at WPN Level 4

- Pre-planting activities
- Overview of permaculture principles and ethics
- Understanding the design process and permaculture zones
- Introduction to food forest design
- Understanding the role of composting and soil fertility
- Planting activities
- Practicing food forest design techniques
- Implementing sustainable gardening techniques
- WSH guidelines, building a compost pile and soil fertility techniques and managing pests and diseases
- Amounts and mixing proportions of fertilisers and chemicals for different plants
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) required for horticultural tasks
- Post-planting activities
- Establishing a food forest, planting and mulching techniques and maintenance strategies
- Post-planting aftercare requirements for different plants
- Benefits of specific types of mulches and other organic materials for plant growth
Certificate Obtained and Conferred by
- Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Statement of Attainment (SOA), accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore. SOA will be reflected as LNS-GNM-3019-1.
- Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub and Netatech
- Certificate of completion from NTUC LearningHub
Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.
