Course Overview

This course is targeted at people leaders to enable them to lead teams and organisation through the challenges brought about by the VUCA business climate. One of the key skills for leaders to navigate these VUCA times is to be able to convey and exchange thoughts, ideas and information effectively through various mediums and approaches with various stakeholders.

This course is designed to equip leaders with skillsets to synthesise information and inputs to communicate to multiple stakeholders to achieve organisational goals. They also learn how to manage difficult conversation professionally with tact and discretion. These skillsets are important for leaders in the modern workplace to influence, encourage and motivate team members to greater heights.

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how to thrive in a VUCA business environment
  • Understand and apply various types of communication strategies and tactics
  • Develop a compelling story to drive key messages
  • Design inspiring message by understanding stakeholder dynamics and applying storytelling techniques
  • Deliver an influential message with the appropriate communication approaches and medium
  • Spread impactful message by managing diverse views and expectations from stakeholders
  • Influence behavioural change in stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes

Pre-requisites

The admission requirements are:

  • Read, write, and speak English at WPL Level 8
  • Have more than 3 years or more of work experience; and
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Hardware & Software (if applicable)
    • This course will be conducted as a Virtual Live Class (VLC) via Zoom platform.
    • Participants must own a Zoom account and have a laptop or a desktop with “Zoom Client for Meetings” installed. Download from zoom.us/download.

Please ensure that your computer or laptop meets the following requirements.

  • Operating system: Windows 10 or MacOS (64 bit or above) 
  • Processor/CPU: 1.8 GHz, 2-core Intel Core i3 or higher
  • Minimum 20 GB hard disk space
  • Minimum 8 GB RAM 
  • Webcam (camera must be turned on for the duration of the class) 
  • Microphone 
  • Internet Connection: Wired or Wireless broadband 
  • Latest version of Zoom software to be installed on computer or laptop prior to the class.

Good-to-have:

  • Wired internet connection
    Wired internet will provide you with stable and reliable connection.
  • Dual monitors
    Using a dual monitor setup will undoubtedly improve your training experience, enabling you to simultaneously participate in hands-on exercises and maintain engagement with your instructor. 

Not recommended:
Using tablets are not recommended due to their smaller screen size, which could cause eye strain and discomfort over the course of the program's duration. 

Course Outline

LU1: Content – Design Inspiring Message

  • Understand stakeholder dynamics, and context to determine communication strategy and tactics
  • Create a compelling story synthesising information and communication objectives

LU2: Conversations – Deliver Influential Message

  • Adapt communication approaches to anticipated responses to drive behaviour change
  • Apply strategies to deliver sensitive communications with empathy
  • Adapt communication approaches according to context and types of messages to convey
  • Understand and navigate communication roadblocks

LU3: Connectivity – Spread Impactful Message

  • Manage and navigate diverse views and expectations to achieve desired outcomes
  • Evaluate and utilise emerging communication channels to make messaging effective and reach out to a broader audience efficiently

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

  • Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Statement of Attainment (SOA), accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore. SOA will be reflected as Critical Core Skills – Adaptability CCS-CMC-A002-1.
  • Certificate of completion from NTUC LearningHub

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

Funding Eligibility Criteria

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses.
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments and attain 100% competency.
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP:

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.
