What does a Healthcare Assistant do?


  • Attends to patients' needs in their activities of daily living and performs basic patient care procedures under the supervision of trained nurses.
  • Job scope entails attending nursing support care training to stay up to date on skills for providing quality patient care.

Responsibilities


  1. Establish rapport and maintain relationships with clients
  2. Assist clients with common health conditions
  3. Assist clients with common mental health conditions
  4. Assist clients with feeding activities
  5. Assist clients in toileting
  6. Assist clients with elimination and perineal care activities
  7. Transfer clients with or without mobility equipment to prevent falls
  8. Measure and record vital signs of clients
  9. Assist in administering medication for clients
  10. Bed sponging (bed bath)
  11. Assisted showering
  12. Blood glucose monitoring
  13. Stoma Care (cleaning and changing of stoma bag)
  14. Collection of specimen [stool specimen, urine specimen [for Full Examination Microscopy Examination (FEME) and culture and sensitivity (C&S)]

Pre-requisites

  • Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents, and holders of Long-term visit Pass-plus (“LTVP+ Holders”) who are aged 21 years old and above
  • Minimum 1 pass in GCE ‘O’ Level (any subject), or 2 passes in GCE ‘N’ Level in a relevant subject (e.g. Maths, Science, English) or, WPLN Level 5 (Speak, Listen, Read, Numeracy) and Level 4 (Write)
  • Certified medically fit for healthcare work
  • Fully vaccinated (Covid vaccine)
  • Clear Health Declaration
  • Committed to completing the programme
  • No working experience required
Functional / Technical Competencies​

  • Basic Computer Skills to be able to attend online lessons

Total duration: 289 hours / 3 months (full-time) or 7 months (part-time)

This programme is offered in both full-time and part-time. The duration of the full-time programme will be 3 months and the part-time programme will be 7 months.

Certifications

Participants will be awarded with the SCTP Higher Certificate in Support Care (Healthcare) Delivery.

*GST payable for all funding-eligible applicants: $173.41 (As per SSG’s policy, the GST payable is calculated based on prevailing rates of 9% after the baseline funding subsidy of 70%)

  1. Base Subsidy - Eligible Singapore Citizens and PRs aged 21 years and above can enjoy subsidies up to 70% of the course fee. 
  2. Mid-career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES) – Eligible Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above can enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.  
  3. Additional Funding Support (AFS)- Eligible Singapore Citizens that meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria can enjoy subsidies up to 95% of the course fee:
    1. Long-term unemployed individuals (unemployed for six months or more); or
    2. Individuals in need of financial assistance – ComCare Short-to-Medium Term Assistance (SMTA) recipients or Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) recipients; or
    3. Persons with Disabilities

Funding Eligibility Criteria

  1. Trainee must be a Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident, or LTVP+ Holder aged 21 years old and above
  2. From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses.​
  3. Trainee must achieve at least 75% attendance for each module
  4. Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments and attain 100% competency.
  5. NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria.
