What does a Therapist Assistant do?


  • A Therapist Assistant provides support to therapists before, during and after therapy sessions.

Responsibilities


  1. Assist in department administration and operations and assist patients in the performance of therapeutic activities and exercises.
  2. Prepare clients, materials and equipment for assessments or therapy
  3. Assist therapists in assessing clients’ status for suitability to start therapy sessions or continue with therapy sessions
  4. Assist therapists in carrying out treatment plans
  5. Perform therapy procedures according to protocols as instructed by the therapists
  6. Assist therapists in recording therapy sessions according to template sets
  7. Communicate information of therapy sessions to the therapists
  8. Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic interventions as instructed by therapists
  9. Conduct basic or routine group therapy
  10. Maintain cleanliness and safety of therapy areas
  11. Adhere to infection control procedures
  12. Maintain inventories and equipment for the department
  13. Perform administrative duties

Pre-requisites

  • Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents, and holders of Long-term visit Pass-plus (“LTVP+ Holders”) who are aged 21 years old and above
  • Minimum 1 pass in GCE ‘O’ Level (any subject), or 2 passes in GCE ‘N’ Level in a relevant subject (e.g. Maths, Science, English) or, WPLN Level 5 (Speak, Listen, Read, Numeracy) and Level 4 (Write)
  • Certified medically fit for healthcare work
  • Fully vaccinated (Covid vaccine)
  • Clear Health Declaration
  • Committed to completing the programme
  • No working experience required
Functional / Technical Competencies​

  • Basic Computer Skills to be able to attend online lessons

Total duration: 316.5 hours / 3.5 months (full-time) or 7.5 months (part-time)

This programme is offered in both full-time and part-time. The duration of the full-time programme will be 3.5 months and the part-time programme will be 7.5 months.

Certifications

Participants will be awarded with the SCTP Certificate in Therapy Support (Healthcare).

*GST payable for all funding-eligible applicants: $207.25 (As per SSG’s policy, the GST payable is calculated based on prevailing rates of 9% after the baseline funding subsidy of 70%)

  1. Base Subsidy - Eligible Singapore Citizens and PRs aged 21 years and above can enjoy subsidies up to 70% of the course fee. 
  2. Mid-career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES) – Eligible Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above can enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fee.  
  3. Additional Funding Support (AFS)- Eligible Singapore Citizens that meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria can enjoy subsidies up to 95% of the course fee:
    1. Long-term unemployed individuals (unemployed for six months or more); or
    2. Individuals in need of financial assistance – ComCare Short-to-Medium Term Assistance (SMTA) recipients or workfare Income Supplement (WIS) recipients; or
    3. Persons with Disabilities

Funding Eligibility Criteria

  1. Trainee must be a Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident, or LTVP+ Holder aged 21 years old and above
  2. From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses.​
  3. Trainee must achieve at least 75% attendance for each module
  4. Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments and attain 100% competency.
  5. NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria.
